Old News

IBM ITSO Projects
In August 2003, Veejoe Consulting's Vic Cross completed his fifth ITSO project! The Redpaper Linux on IBM e(logo)server zSeries and S/390: VSWITCH and VLAN Features of z/VM 4.4 has been published. Like the LEAF and VRRP papers, this was another solo effort (Vic would like to thank the ITSO staff and IBM colleagues that provide support and assistance on his projects, though!). Congratulations Vic!
The books are downloadable from the IBM Redbooks Web Site. Go straight to the relevant page by clicking one of the following links.

Where is Poughkeepsie, anyway? Check out a map here.
The Penguin Farm
Unfortunately, due to a server replacment, "The Penguin Farm" is off the air. To be honest, it was not being kept up to date anyway, so its loss will not be mourned by many! Stay tuned for something new and exciting to replace it!

Computing

Veejoe Consulting specialises in Networking and Linux on the IBM zSeries platform (including S/390). See my personal page (here) for more information about my interest in and involvement in the System/390 and Linux worlds.
We are also working in the Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) field, and can provide expertise on VoIP deployments.

VoIP

Voice over IP is rapidly gaining traction in the telecommunications arena. Many large organisations use VoIP internally to reduce the cost of communications, and service providers are showing considerable interest in offering services based on VoIP. In the US, companies have been offering VoIP services to replace traditional POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) connections for several years.
Veejoe Consulting has developed considerable expertise with the Asterisk Open Source PBX software. Using Asterisk, even the smallest company can take advantage of voicemail, call queueing, conference rooms, and least-cost routing (LCR). Asterisk provides an ideal way to introduce the power of VoIP to an organisation of any size.

Linux

Linux is the primary operating system at Veejoe Consulting. We use the Gentoo distribution on our Intel and AMD servers, with the Community Enterprise Operating System (CentOS) running under Hercules (S/390). We have extensive knowledge of Novell's SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES).

zSeries (S/390)

Veejoe Consulting is a key provider to the Linux/390 community. Through our contribution to ITSO projects, we are at the forefront of Linux/390 solution provision in the Asia Pacific region.

Veejoe Consulting has been working with zSeries networking for over a decade. Our knowledge of SNA/APPN and mainframe TCP/IP is among the best in the nation. Our experience includes design and implementation involvement in a network replacement project for one of Australia's major banks, support and design work for one of Queensland's largest S/390 installations, and design and implementation involvement in one of the first major Linux on zSeries installations in Asia Pacific.

Hercules

Veejoe Consulting uses the Hercules S370/ESA390/zArchitecture emulator to support our Linux/390 work. While we do have a P/390, the server housing it is on its last legs. We can get extremely good performance from Hercules running on current hardware--in fact, our main Hercules machine (dual Opteron 246) easily outperforms the CPU in the P/390 by an order of magnitude.

here for some pictures -- including what could be the smallest machine ever to run the MVT operating system!

Find out more about Hercules at the project Home Page.

Network Management

Veejoe Consulting can provide assistance with network management tasks, on the mainframe and in TCP/IP networks. We have extensive knowledge of the Tivoli NetView for OS/390 product for mainframe network management. We also have knowledge of Linux based open-source network management tools such as Cacti, MRTG and Nagios (formerly NetSaint).
